George Mutlow Abell is my great-great-great-grandfather, my mother’s mother’s mother’s father’s father. He was born in Mitcheldean, lived in Barnwood in Gloucester and worked as a solicitor in Cheltenham.

I think, my Nan Bircher was quite glad that my mother was born a girl. If it had been a boy her mother wanted her to name him Mutlow, but she thought it wasn’t a very nice name. She knew that there was some-one called Mutlow in the family, but did not know exactly who. We now know that this was her great-grandfather.
